Tel: 020-8346-6303 Email: alan@esm.org.uk Web-site: www.esm.org.uk MALES & FEMALES: The club owes its origin to the Ealing 'United Services Boxing Club' formed by ex-service men, who instituted an athletics section in 1920 and became Ealing & Hanwell Harriers in 1924. Southall Norwood AC was formed in 1931 becoming Southall AC in 1937 and the two clubs combined forces in 1966. In 1994 Middlesex Ladies AC amalgamated with Ealing & Southall AC. Middlesex Ladies were founded in 1923. The club's earliest famous athlete was Vera Palmer who set a world record at 250 metres in 1925. Dora Gardner was women's team captain at both the European Championships in 1938 and the Olympics in 1948. Kelly Holmes is the 2004 800m and 1500m Olympic champion and also current British record holder in the 800m and 1500m. The Club's first male international was Mike Blagrove who ran the 1500m/1m for Britain in 1958 while Joe Keating ran a world best for 50km in 1973. The club currently operates teams in division 3 of the Southern Men's League, division 1 of the Southern Women's League and division 1 of the Young Athletes League. Headquarters: Perivale Park Track, Stockdove Way, Greenford Tel. 020-8575-5776. Facilities comprise a clubhouse and weight-training room and an eight lane synthetic track. Track & field training is Tues. & Thur. evenings 7:00pm- and Sun. 11:00am-. Road Running from Perivale Park is on Mon. evening at 7.30pm and Wednesday at 6:45pm with beginners at 7:30pm. |
