Barnet and District A.C. is a friendly club whose members include male, female and young athletes of all disciplines and abilities. The roots of the Barnet club go back to 1904 when New Barnet AC came into existence. In 1953 the club's name was changed to Barnet AC. A few years later, Hampstead Harriers, which was founded in 1890, joined forces with Barnet AC to form the present club. Prominent athletes include: Harry Hicks three times a cross-country international and British marathon representative at the Melbourne Olympics, Derek Wood a top veteran marathon runner, Dave Wilcock British veteran 800 m champion, Des Michael British veteran 5000m champion and Jane Laws British veteran 5000m record holder and champion.

Competition:
The club competes in several leagues, namely, Metropolitan Cross-Country, Chingford Cross-Country, the Southern Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Leagues, the Eastern Young Athletes League and the Mid-Week Road Race League. Home cross-country fixtures are held in Trent Park or the nearby Hadley Woods.

Headquarters:
Victoria Hall, off Victoria Road, New Barnet, (adjacent to Victoria Recreation Ground) where road runs take place on a Thursday evening and occasional socials. Track training is at Copthall Stadium, Great North Way, Hendon on Tues. evenings when young athletes are encouraged to participate. Other training sessions take place at various locations in the area. Of particular note are those on Saturday mornings in Trent Park, Cockfosters; variously for seniors, young athletes and recreational walkers/runners. On Sundays during the winter, the club organises two six-week series of sportshall activities for youngsters aged 8 years and above.
